Good player who has the prerequisites to become exceptional Reminds of one of my all time favourites - Mark Ward, who in his own right reminded me of the brilliant Steve Coppell Great to watch a wide man fly up the wing and then be prepared to graft selflessly Some way to go, but as I said, he has the potential

I agree. End product not yet good enough. Also a bit too selfish. Could have squared to Fornals for our 3rd but shot instead. OK outcome still a goal but....Arjen Bowen???

My point was more that every supporter, from every team moans about finishing. Because actually, on average, the majority of players miss the target more than they hit it. I am not sure the finishing of our front 4 is any better or worse than most other teams. That is what the stat shows.
I think Fornals has improved this season, but is probably still the worse of the three, Benni tries that curler into the top corner far too often and rarely nails it but I dont have much of an issue with Bowen.

Re: Bowen

Doing great, fitness, work rate, determination, attitude all spot on. Technically he can improve he’s got another 20% he can kick on.
What I really like is that when he misses a chance he don’t hide, he keeps going and putting himself in the position to score again.
Very good player.

You cannot fault his commitment and work rate. A rough diamond being polished by Moyes

Bowen feels more of a team man than Lingard. About 18 months ago Micky was my no 1 fave because of his commitment. Now they are all my fave. I like players at similar levels working for each other. It stops superstar nonsense.

I'm with Vexed and southwoodford.
I like Bowen a lot, his work rate is fantastic, he always tracks back and he is a really important part of the team but he lacks real quality in the final third when it really matters.
It's similar with Fornals but he is ahead of Bowen in terms of end product.
Maybe a bit harsh because he was on absolute fire when he joined us, but Lingards performances last season for us sets the bar for the levels both Bowen and Fornals need to be pushing for.in terms of end product on top of the work rate they both bring to the team.

Re: Bowen

Regarding the ratio of shots to whether on target enough or how many result in goals the stats, as usual, can mislead.
For example twenty shots from around the edge of the box can be roughly in the centre of goal and comfortably gobbled up by the keeper. Whereas the same number of shots aimed at the corners will have a higher risk ratio but a few will beat the keeper and go in.
As for shots at goal from a distance some managers do their best to discourage it being done to excess.

Pasty - He definitely isn't at his best yet, it's clear he can do things better and improve his finishing, etc. The good thing is him and Moyes know it.

He has been great the last month or so - his work rate is unbelievable, I don't think he is at his best yet. Seems to have the right attitude and will continue to improve under Moyes.

Vexed, first rule of being a goalscorer, at least make the keeper work when you get a chance, if you hit the target then you have a chance of it going in. Not really a bullshit stat is it?

Yep he's been mustard, very unlucky to not get at least another goal yesterday and his overall workrate is outstanding but make no bones about it he is also a good footballer.

But on target doesn't necessarily mean it was a good shot. You can't tell me that Formals is better in front of goal than Antonio, it simply isn't the case!
Benrahma shoots and hits the first defender about 80% of the time. Does my head in. Bowen will do great work and shoot at the keeper. Formals will.miss the easy ones and then score a really difficult one.
Shots on target is a bullshit stat.

Agree. Judgment in goal scoring positions from all three is far from great.

Re: Bowen

Bowen actually has a very high shots on target % (50%), not that many players in the league have higher (who shoot regularly). Infact it is surprising that most players are below 40%. Also interesting that both Fornals and Benny have a better % than Antonio.
My point is that all supporters of all teams think their players cant shoot.

If Bowen, Formals or Benrahma could shoot we'd probably be top of the league now. However you can't fault the work ethic of any of them.

Re: Bowen

Very unlucky with that double block by Cash as said especially the second where he got his bonce in the way. Was through when hacked down and in an identical position for our 3rd (ie another OBVIOUS scoring opportunity) where the keeper made a good save & then scored the 4th. Could have had FOUR yesterday. Dean Smith was right , it wasnt a 4-1 game. It should have been 8 while they played with 9 men
Bowen is getting better and better and just needs to keep working on his composure in front of goal. In a couple of seasons he will be the English Mo Salah. Without the playacting, diving and camel fucking.
